Well, we did it! We met with a midwife this morning to discuss having a home birth. Our only concern is that she is more expensive (by $1,000) than we had anticipated based on the fees other midwives in the area charge and our insurance isn't likely to pay much of the fee. Otherwise, she made us feel really good about having a home birth. I really like how she provides the individual care doctors cannot provide. For example, she is going to discuss nutrition in depth with us, which is something our doctor does not do.
Anyway, this is exciting news but it is going to be interesting to see how our family members react to this decision. :)

Don't let other's opinion matter. As long as it's safe and healthy for you guys and you two are happy with the decision then that's all that matters. Like Jenn says, every family is different and every parenting style is different.
